Many disorders or mental illnesses are multidetermined. Meaning there are a variety of factors contributing to the illness (biochemical, interpersonal, behavioral and cognitive.) Medication alone is often not sufficient since the medication addresses the biochemical aspect. There is significant evidence that has consistently demonstrated that long term efficacy improves when medication is combined with counseling and the interpersonal, behavioral and cognitive areas are addressed. Services such as yoga or exercise can be an example of behavioral techniques used to improve any deficits in this domain that may be contributing to the disorder.
